if you want to engage in conduct
and wish to become accomplished,
undertake the conduct in this way.1332
This practice tradition also says that conduct must be linked with timing. Some who have not recognized the essence of their mind [undertake conduct] when they have had just some kind of śamatha experience. Others, without even that, wander in charnel grounds and at crossroads for the sake of fame, recognition, and gains. They may start out with tenacity but will later become complacent. None of them will enhance their spiritual practices authentically because they neither recognize the essence of their thoughts, which are what are to be integrated into the path, nor recognize the abiding state of their mind, the place where integration occurs.
The purpose of conduct. Conduct is not undertaken simply for the sake of taking sense pleasures as the path. It is done to equalize the taste of mental stability and wavering as the essence of dharmatā, as the Two-Part [Hevajra Tantra] explains: [450]
